Kick-off Meeting – MBF Working Group on EU Battery Passports for Maritime Batteries

Join the Maritime Battery Forum (MBF) and BASE to explore how the maritime industry is preparing for the EU Battery Passport and the transition towards digital traceability, circularity, and regulatory compliance.

In this session, representatives from BASE and Corvus Energy will discuss how digital battery passports can enable a resilient, transparent, and sustainable maritime supply chain, preparing the industry for the upcoming EU regulatory requirements.

As the EU Battery Regulation introduces mandatory Battery Passports for all industrial, electric vehicle, and maritime batteries by February 2027, this session marks the launch of a collaborative Working Group on EU Battery Passports for Maritime Batteries.

Led by the Maritime Battery Forum (MBF), the working group brings together key stakeholders across the maritime battery value chain to shape a common industry approach towards battery passport implementation.

Through this kick-off meeting, experts from Corvus Energy, a consortium partner of BASE, will share insights on how the project’s Digital Battery Passport (DBP) framework can help the maritime sector achieve transparency, traceability, and circularity in compliance with the EU regulation.

What does this session cover?

  • The EU Battery Passport and its implications for the maritime battery industry
  • How BASE’s interoperable DBP framework supports regulatory compliance and circular economy integration
  • Corvus Energy’s role in applying BASE’s architecture to maritime battery systems
  • Practical insights into digital traceability, ESG reporting, and end-of-life data management
  • Collaborative approaches for harmonising industry standards and best practices across the maritime value chain

Corvus Energy’s Role in BASE

As a global leader in maritime battery and energy storage systems, Corvus Energy plays a crucial role in supporting BASE’s mission to build a trusted, interoperable, and circular Digital Battery Passport framework.

Within the project, Corvus contributes to several key work areas:

  • Designing the reference architecture and developing semantic data models for the platform’s dataspace (WP2).
  • Assessing and validating calculation algorithms for lifecycle indicators, monitoring battery safety across first and second life use, and defining repurposing classification protocols (WP3).
  • Supporting the creation of benchmark datasets, Battery Circularity Index (BCI) metrics, and second-life safety certification protocols (WP4).
  • Contributing to the development of economic, social, and governance indicators (WP5).
  • Leading marine pilot planning and demonstration activities, applying BASE’s DBP framework in real maritime environments (WP7).
  • Participating in market analysis and business case modelling to demonstrate the commercial potential of the DBP solution (WP8).
